Anyone can get better at using social media. Here are six ways:
- Follow the leaders. The best practitioners of social media do a lot of their work very publicly. Follow some and see what and how they post.
- Use several: Facebook is not enough. Linkedin is not enough. Twitter is not enough. Deli.cio.us is not enough. Master many.
- Integrate: Link your tools to each other and your reach will expand exponentially.
- Install tools: Many are free and make it easy to feed and manage several platforms from your computer or mobile device.
- Share something: A lot of folks are turned off by people who use social media with silly updates. Share expertise or insights. Even a well-selected list of links to other good content can work, though original material is better.
- Link and follow: Social media are not just about how many people follow or friend you. It is just as much about your outbound links. Be Grand Central Station, not a dead-end alley.
